Portland, ME Travel Guide

October 2018 // By Natalie Jean

Earlier this month, Mark and I took a little trip to New England to take in the sights, spend some time together, and soak up all the fall foliage + crisp air. I loved it! Neither of us have been to Portland, Maine before so it was such an exciting adventure! (I went to Portland once with my grandparents when I was a kid but it was in passing so I barely remembered anything except for the giant L.L. Bean boot!)

This travel guide is going to be a mix of the places we visited, the things we tried, and lots of coffee- of course! If you ever have a chance to visit, I highly recommend it (especially during the autumn season).

To Eat:
Rose Foods - (we went here twice because we loved it so much!) They have DELISH matzo ball soup and bagels. I recommend an everything bagel with cream cheese, capers, and dill. YUM!

Highroller Lobster Co. - DUDE. Amazing Lobster Rolls. Amazing. I had one with the honey dijonaisse and a ginger ale and I had a dream about it the next night. Thats how good it was.

The Holy Donut - I tried a sweet potato donut with ginger glaze and Mark had one with cinnamon apple glaze. These potato donuts were delicious, so sweet and decadent. It was no wonder the line is always out the door!

Eventide Oyster Co. - wonderful oyster bar and seafood restaurant

Slab - SUCH GOOD PIZZA!

Duckfat

Portland Lobster Company

Empire - Popular Chinese/Asian restaurant (that was over an hour and a half wait when we got there!) But worth it.

Coffee:
Speckled Axe - Wood roasted coffee and espresso (Mark and I have never had wood-roasted coffee before and it was so good!)

Tandem Coffee and Bakery - We love love loved Tandem! Their baked goods were delicious and we loved their coffee too. The whole vibe of both locations was the best. Definitely somewhere I would want to hang out if I lived locally!

Bard Coffee

Coffee By Design

Things to Do:
Play pool and hang out at Old Port Tavern Billiards.

Portland Observatory

Portland Ballet

L.L. Bean Outlet/Freeport Outlets

Portland Head Lighthouse

Shopping in Portland- We loved Salt Cellar, Moody Lords, Pinecone + Chickadee, the Cabot Cheese Shop, Amie, and a couple of different tourist-y shops and game/bookstores.

Have you ever been to Portland, Maine? What are some of your favorite things to do or places to eat? We definitely plan to make this a regular road-tripping destination because we had such a great time (not to mention, anywhere that has a lobster roll within a 1 mile radius is good for us!)

  5. My husband and I are from a small town about an hour outside of Portland and now currently reside in Westbrook (right next door to Portland lol). It's such a cute little city! I have so many of these on my Portland travel guide as well. The Holy Donut is amazing! I actually just brought our toddler there for the first time last week and she loved them lol Coffee by Design is probably one of my favorite coffee shops and I always tell people to check out Portland Lobster Co. This is an awesome round up of places to go and things to do!
