How to Host a Golden Girls Party

July 2018 // By Natalie Jean

So a few weeks ago, I turned 25 years old and let me tell you its been great so far. I don't know what it is (maybe its all in my head) but I'm just feeling great about this year!

To celebrate I invited a couple of friends over and threw myself a Golden Girls themed birthday party (no shame)! We had the show playing in the background, a couple of card/board games, lots of yummy food, flowers and balloons, and of course cheesecake!  If you watch the show, you'll get the reference.

So let's chat about how you can host a Golden Girls party of your very own! If you have a birthday coming up, you want to have friends over, or you simply want to celebrate your love of the television show this theme is a blast.

Here is what you'll need- party food (I made some salad, BBQ chicken in the crockpot, chips + salsa, popcorn, a cheese board, fruit), decor, drinks and cups, party games or activities, some friends and family, and CHEESECAKE. Almost every episode of The Golden Girls starts or ends with cheesecake. Its the ladies favorite treat, so you bet I made myself one for my birthday cake :)

I will be sharing the recipe soon so you can make one for yourself. It was delicious.

One of the characters, Blanche, has the cutest bedroom all covered in splashes of pink and monstera leaves so I totally ran with that theme. Some of the plates and the tablecloth were covered in the leaves and then my friend Christian made this fun artwork with each of the ladies!

Some of the best parts of the party are the little elements. Have a letter board? Decorate it!
I found these cute stickers on Etsy and put them on toothpicks for the cheeseboard and it was so cute! We also played a game of "Pin the Purse on Sophia" similar to pin the tail on the donkey. It was so fun!

Finally, I encouraged guests to dress in their best late 80's wear or something Gold Girls themed. I found this cute tee at Forever 21 and then I handed out pearls as party favors. Such a fun time! Have you ever hosted a themed party? What theme? Share in the comments below!

  1. I'll be totally honest - I've never watched Golden Girls. BUT this looks like such a fun party, I'm thinking I know exactly what to binge watch this weekend!

  2. I frigging love this! I'm totally doing this for my friend Michelle's birthday next year. She has the "Stay Golden" shirt, and when she wore it, I couldn't stop laughing! Very cute idea for a party!

  3. It's so funny to stumble upon your Golden Girls themed birthday party. Just the other day I had their theme song as an ear worm. I couldn't stop myself from singing it. It was torture for my husband and brother.
