My Summertime Essentials

July 2018 // By Natalie Jean

Hey friends! Long time, no post. I've been traveling and working really hard on different freelance projects with social media management and photography. I'm totally loving the outlets and opportunities to be creative and get to grow in different relationships and areas of life.

I'm finally able to sit down and plan a few blog posts out for the next couple of weeks and today's is one I am pretty pumped to share! With summer comes a whole new wave of busy-ness. Whether you now have kids home from school or you're a photographer with tons of weddings and engagements to shoot, or your just finding that all the little moments are getting filled up with family vacation, travel, and trying to catch up on sleep when you aren't at work summertime is packed with activities.

I've noticed that when I get busy, my self care and attention to detail in what I'm wearing or how I'm eating can take a back seat. That's not good because then my self esteem tanks. Maybe its just me, but when I look crappy or treat myself crappy I feel like crap.

I've been trying to make sure that my diet is in a good place- you know, eating me veggies and such- and that I am getting sleep when I can, but something else that seems to make me feel better about being productive and seizing the day is when I do my hair and makeup. Might sound a bit silly, but its true! Getting ready for the day and not hanging out in sweats (which can be nice, don't get me wrong)  helps me get more accomplished.

The handful of items that I wanted to share on the blog today are not only great for your look/wardrobe but they travel well and are easy to use whenever!

The first item that I'm loving right now and have word every day since I got it is my new perfume. The scent is 'sea salt and rose' which screams summer to me! I picked it up at Anthropologie one day on a whim and I'm so glad I did. Its definitely great for summertime and has a hint of floral notes as well as fresh + bright notes too. But really, who doesn't want to smell like a summer rose?

Next are these "Enamored" lip glosses from Marc Jacobs. I received them for testing purposes from Influenster and I was surprised at how well they hold up throughout the day and the shade names/packaging are so fun! The two shades I really like at the moment are Uh Huh Honey and Sweet Escape. They fit perfectly in my purse (I tend to carry smaller bags so I need makeup that can travel well + doesn't take up too much room).

The last thing (and this may sound totally silly) that I have made super important for myself is drinking water. I'm chuckling as I type this because, of course that is essential! Just being real with you all, I drink about 2-3 glasses of water a day. That isn't even half of the recommended amount. *hangs head in shame*

I've been noticing a difference in my skin, my energy, and my mood all because I am filling up a reusable water bottle every morning and making sure I drink 2-3 of those (which equals a little more than 8 glasses) a day! So as simple as it sounds, make water an essential, especially in the summer.

What are some of your summer essentials?

  1. I totally understand the concept of how you treat yourself affecting how you feel. I've been challenging myself to actually get dressed in the mornings rather than throwing on a t-shirt and track shorts (even though I'm just working from home), and I'm pretty sure it's positively impacting my productivity!

    1. Yes! I totally echo you on this. I notice such a boost in my productivity when I get ready for the day vs. bumming it.

  2. This summer has definitely been a very busy one! It can be so easy to not take as much time to care for yourself, but I like what you said about still doing your hair and makeup. I have definitely been trying to get dressed and do my makeup each day. I also LOVE your dress!

  3. I hear you on the water drinking! I set a goal to drink at least 64 oz of water a day but usually shoot for 72 if I can. I found that if I carry my 24 oz Tervis with me, I can keep track of how much water I drink. Plus it motivates me to drink more when we go out to eat or are at someone's house.

  4. I totally get what you're saying ESPECIALLY about the diet! I've been visiting my family over the last month and we've been seeing friends and family nonstop. All good except I've been eating like I'm on vacation. Ugh! Need to get back into a good diet groove, stat! Love the look of the lip gloss!
