DIY Embellished Denim Jacket

March 2018 // By Natalie Jean

A few weeks ago I let myself buy a few things at the ban.do warehouse sale and I am so glad that I did! I have been looking for a quality denim jacket for over a year that didn't cost me more than $40 (I hate splurging on things that I won't need every single day). Well, I feel like I've hit the jackpot because I had a coupon and shopped the warehouse sale and got 2 patches along with a great denim jacket for around $30. Yay!

You will need a denim jacket, an iron, an ironing board, and a few iron on patches. They can be for your favorite bands, a moment from a vacation or trip, or some like what I have here. The patches I used for this jacket are here and here. I also really love this one!

If your patches have instructions on how they should be used/added to your jacket then follow those. If not, you can do the following: Make sure the patches and jacket are dry and clean from dust/dirt/hairs. Set your iron to the setting for cotton. That is usually the best bet, unless you know that they patch is made from something else like rayon, silk, or polyester.

Remove any plastic or paper material from the back of the patch and smooth out the surface of the jacket on your ironing board. Slowly but firmly iron on the patch (patterned side up) where you'd like it. If you feel like it needs to be even more secured, you can wait until the patch and jacket cool from the iron and then secure the edges by sewing it down with matching thread.

My patches came with instructions on how to adhere them to a fabric, and it was really easy to do. In addition, I stitched around the edges of the "bonjour" patch to make sure it was really on there. That particular patch had more thread/fabric on it than the first so I wanted to be safe, especially since where I decided to place it was on the shoulder which was more curved!

Enjoy your new embellished jacket! Its sure to spruce up any outfit this spring. Shout out to ban.do for being awesome!

If you want to see how I edit my photos (I used examples from this post) just head over to my Instagram account and watch my story highlights! I ran a poll a few days ago and the vote came in strong for me to create a "how I edit photos on my phone" video. Don't miss it!
