Warm Spiced Autumn Punch

October 2018 // By Natalie Jean

I am so excited about this recipe because its warming and seasonal and all things holiday! (If you don't already know me, let me just inform you that I start celebrating fall on September 1st and I've been listening to Christmas music since last week.)

I am just so excited for all the holidays coming up!

Today I wanted to share a yummy recipe that my friend Danielle and I made for a feature in Harrisburg Magazine. She works for them and asked if I would be available for some food styling. Uh, absolutely!

This drink is one for the adults, and it will fit any autumn gathering menu. With warm tones of cinnamon and clove, bright pops of citrus, and that unique zing of star anise- this punch is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Warm Spiced Autumn Punch

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Yields: (8-10 cups)

Ingredients
  • 1 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1/4 cup honey (add additional honey for a sweeter drink)
  • 1 freshly juiced (large) orange, and a dash of orange zest
  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Allspice
  • 1 teaspoon of whole cloves (add a dash more for a spicier cider)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole star anise
  • Orange slices, for garnish
  • Cinnamon sticks, for garnish
  • Whole start anise, for garnish
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a large pot, and heat on low for approximately 30 minutes until warm, or you can combine all ingredients into a slow cooker on low for about 45 minutes to hour (then turn to warm if you’re going to be serving from the cooker throughout the night!).

Once warm, you can serve immediately with a few extra garnishes like whole star anise, cinnamon sticks, and an orange peel for added detail!

    1. Well I suppose you could add whatever you like, although the recipe already calls for 1 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (red wine)!
