link your ink

Today I am joining Kaitlin at Sew My Soul with a link up to share the story behind my tattoo!

About a year and a half ago, I got my tattoo from Eddie at Heart & Soul Tattoo. The tattoo is of a feather on my left forearm. The feather represents a few things for me. The first is Matthew 6:26 which says:
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"
This verse speaks a ton into my life because growing up I struggled with depression and as I got farther into my time here in college, I struggle with anxiety. The tattoo is a daily visual reminder that God has everything under control. In the end, He will take care of me so I don't need to waste all of my time worrying.
The feather also symbolizes bravery. After I decided to get the tattoo based on the symbolism with the verse in Matthew, I had read about how some Native American tribes gave great warriors feathers that were to be displayed and held in high regard. These feathers could only be earned in acts of bravery and I felt like this would be a great symbolism as well. Fighting the battle of depression and anxiety is hard but I made it through and I am brave.

Finally, I just really like the particular feather I chose to get. Nothing wrong with that being one of the reasons I got it ;) I like feathers! The shading and details were perfect, and it isn't tacky looking at all (in my opinion).
So glad that I could join in with Kaitlin and everyone else that participated in this link up! It was great to share the story behind my tattoo.

  3. I love this! I have had a huge struggle with anxiety (and the depression that follows). I have a post that I have been saving to share, because of the "anxiety" that it carries in seeing others I know after I share it. I wrote it over two weeks ago! The entire reason behind restarting my blog was to share my struggles with anxiety with others. This has given me a little more confidence to share that post with more people. Blessings for a beautiful week ahead!

  5. Thank you so much Liz! Don't be afraid to share your story. God is going to use it for big things, and who knows how many people it will touch and encourage? And maybe it'll help you in that journey out of anxiety because you're posting to battle the fear you have about posting. Haha! Thank you for stopping by and reading!
